This kind of travelling originates from a concept and is, for me anyhow, a form of Land Art which relates to the work of such artists as Hamish Fulton and Richard Long. It is not about visiting places or going somewhere to see or do something. It is about the road itself and me on the road. The books of Jack Kerouac or Robert Pisig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways" were and are steady companions.
